SEO is an abbreviation for Search Engine Optimization which is the process any web designer or web site owner needs to carry out to get good organic rankings / positions in search engine searches.
The process is a mixture on On-page SEO and Off-page SEO.
On-page SEO is the crucial part of preparing your web pages using well written Titles and Descriptions and other tags in your head (known as Meta Tags) loaded with your keywords. Keywords being the words or short phrases that are the key to what the what page is all about. Then other process of the design need to be implemented such as good unique content, image ALT Tags, Headings (h1, h2, h3) again containing the keywords for your site. These are then also carried forward into OG Tags for Social Media. Once done a XML sitemap is created listing all your pages, posts, products and services and then submitted to search engines such as Google and Bing.
Off-page SEO are actions taken to improve the sites popularity, relevance, trustworthiness, and authority which are also key to good rankings. The main part of this is getting quality backlinks to your site on other sites. These are hyperlinks ideally containing your keywords featured on other sites that send visitors to your site. The most common way to achieve this is through social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram Google+ and LinkedIn.
Understanding what SEO is and implementing it into the structure of your website and online marketing is what will achieve high rankings for your SERPs (Search Engine Ranked Pages).
